GameTime Announces Renewal of ISO 14001:2004 Certification for Environmental Sustainability

GameTime, a leading manufacturer of commercial playground equipment, outdoor fitness equipment and custom playscapes, announced today it has received a renewal of its ISO 14001:2004 certification, an Environmental Management Standard. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) established the Environmental Management Systems to encourage companies to evaluate all areas where its activities have an environmental impact.

Companies with the ISO 14001:2004 certification submit to an annual independent audit of their manufacturing processes to assure continual improvement and conformity with the standard, as well as evidence of an ongoing commitment to environmentally sustainable operations.

GameTime’s 400,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Fort Payne, Alabama continually strives to minimize its impact on the environment through conservation measures such as:

  • Reduction of energy consumption by 41% since 2007, the equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 1,849 acres of U.S. forests each year
  • Reduction of water consumption by approximately 1,000 gallons each year since 2010

GameTime also employs a facility-wide recycling program that significantly reduces waste and diverts materials from area landfills. In 2013 GameTime recycled:

  • 13.7 tons of cardboard
  • 16.55 tons of office paper
  • 28,650 plastic drink/water bottles
  • 127,879 pounds of scrap plastic
  • 14,855 pounds of aluminum
  • 2,295 pounds of stainless steel
  • 1,744,100 pounds of steel

To help inform the public of its efforts in environmental sustainability, GameTime published a brochure that outlines the sustainability of the materials used in the manufacture of its playground products, the processes by which those materials are handled and the reclamation capabilities of finished products at the end of their life cycle.
