Illinois School Playground to be National Demonstration Site for PlayOn! Youth Fitness
The playground at Rupley Elementary School in Elk Grove, IL is undergoing renovation in anticipation of students' return to class this fall. School officials, along with representatives of the Elk Grove Parks and Recreation department designed the new playground. The play space is shared by the school and adjacent Andrews Park and it provides the six essential elements of physical play, as outlined in the PlayOn! best practices guidebook.
PlayOn! is a curriculum developed by GameTime's parent company, PlayCore in partnership with SHAPE America. It includes more than 100 playground activities that align with national physical education standards for students in Pre-K through 5th grade.
The PlayOn! Activity Guide will be used by Rupley staff to promote physical activity and to extend their physical education classes outdoors. Each child will have the opportunity to achieve better personal fitness while having fun!
By designing the playground to provide all six essential elements of physical play, and incorporating the PlayOn! Activity Guide into the school's lesson plans, the playground at Rupley Elementary School and Andrews Park meets best practices in design and program elements, and will be designated by PlayCore as a National Demonstration Site.
