Healthy Communities Funding Initiative Brings New GameTime Playgrounds to Kansas Parks

GameTime Adding Four National Demonstration Site Playgrounds in Kansas

GameTime is pleased to announce the Kansas Recreation and Park Association (KRPA) Healthy Communities Initiative has resulted in the development of new National Demonstration Site playgrounds in four Kansas communities:

Chanute Recreation Commission
Lakeview Recreation Area
Chanute, Kansas

City of Wichita
Chapin Park
Wichita, Kansas

The Leawood Foundation & City of Leawood Parks & Recreation
Leawood City Park
Leawood, Kansas

Cheney Recreation Commission
Cheney Community Activities Park
Cheney, Kansas

The sites align with best practices in the areas of Youth Fitness (PlayOn!), Adult Outdoor Fitness and Inclusive Play.

Educational Symposiums and Matching Funds

To further their mission of advancing park and recreation opportunities that enhance the quality of life, KRPA worked with the PlayCore Center for Professional Development, (PlayCore is the parent company of GameTime) to provide state-wide professional development services. At the completion of these symposiums, communities were encouraged to submit applications for matching funds toward the purchase of a new playground that aligned with design best practices. Matching funds were provided by GameTime to assist parks in KRPA Regions install a pre-approved playground space.

These sites served as National Demonstration Sites (NDS) for data collection and contributed data towards the publication of a White Paper launched at the 2017 KRPA Conference. Download a copy of the White Paper to learn about the best practices and outcomes achieved by the state-wide initiative. Demonstration Sites promote advocacy at the community and state levels and provide education, networking opportunities and resources that align with KRPA's mission and strategic plan.
