GameTime and PlayCore team members celebrated the expansion of the South Chickamauga Greenway in Chattanooga, T.N., by running the Krystal Sunriser 5K on Saturday, April 9, 2016. The event was part of a grand opening celebration of the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway expansion.
The Trust for Public Land has been working to expand the 14-mile greenway since 1994. The South Chickamauga Creek Greenway meanders along the creek, connects three different neighborhoods and provides scenic views and outdoor recreation for families in the Chattanooga area.
The start and finish of the 5K race was at the Riverpoint Play Trail, which GameTime built in 2010. It features PlayTrails playground equipment, like a Honeycomb Climber and Inclined Web Crawler. PlayTrails is an innovative outdoor recreation concept created by GameTime that adds pockets of play to paths and trails, encouraging exploration, physical activity and learning opportunities through interpretive signage for the whole family.
To help communities plan their own PlayTrail, GameTime offers the Pathways for Play program. Developed by our parent company, PlayCore, in partnership with the Natural Learning Initiative, College of Design, N.C. State University, Pathways for Play is a comprehensive educational resource to help communities plan, design, and promote playful pathways to make them more attractive to children and families.
