Celebrating the Playgrounds of Landscape Architects
In case you didn’t know, April is World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM). As you might imagine, this month is important to GameTime playgrounds. Landscape architects help us design so many of the fun and innovative play environments we create.
Read on to learn how you can join us in celebrating landscape architects and their amazing work.
What is World Landscape Architecture Month?
World Landscape Architecture Month (WLAM) was established by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). WLAM is a month-long international celebration of landscape architecture and designed public and private spaces.
Communities across the globe have strong, deep-rooted personal connections to the spaces landscape architects create—many are just not aware of it. During WLAM, ASLA and landscape architects around the world aim to publicize that connection by showcasing the work of landscape architects.
How Do Landscape Architects and Playgrounds Go Together?
One of the many areas of a landscape architect's expertise is playgrounds and park renovations. Landscape architects help communities tell a story with recreation spaces and play areas. GameTime helps landscape architects bring their vision to life.
In addition to the innovative and award-winning playground equipment we manufacture, we provide landscape architects with design and planning resources. We make CAD files available for all of our products on our website and on CAD Details so designers can quickly add playground equipment to their plan.
For customers who want to visualize the space before construction begins, we use tools like SketchUp and Lumion to provide a realistic view of what's to come.
How Can You Join in the Celebration?
Last year, ASLA gave WLAM the theme “Life Grows Here,” which gave attention to the life that grows in and around the spaces designed by landscape architects. This year, they’re expanding on that idea with the new theme “Growing Together.” As part of the 2021 theme, ASLA has teamed up with EARTHDAY.org to sponsor The Great Global Cleanup 2021.
Throughout the month of April, ASLA members will organize community cleanup projects with the collective goal of removing millions of pieces of trash from our green spaces, urban communities, and waterways.
“This April, ASLA is celebrating the work of landscape architects to help communities grow together, with each other and with their natural surroundings. Pollution is a prodigious issue in public open spaces – causing flooding, spreading illness, contaminating water sources, and at the root of a myriad of other problems,” CEO of ASLA Torey Carter-Conneen said in a press release. “We’re incredibly proud to partner with EARTHDAY.ORG on The Great Global Cleanup initiative during World Landscape Architecture Month to combat this issue and support healthy, resilient, and sustainable open spaces for all.”
ASLA and EARTHDAY.org will be spotlighting individuals who join in the world’s largest coordinated volunteer event on social media. Follow their Instagram account throughout the month, as Professional & Student chapters take over to show off their work. There will be a social media contest for student members to showcase high-impact projects in their areas while entering to win a trip to the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture in Nashville, TN.
Doing Our Part For Sustainability
GameTime is proud to do our part to preserve and protect natural resources. For nearly a century, we’ve created products that are made from responsible materials, manufactured in a sustainable manner, and designed to be easily reclaimed at the end of their life cycle. GameTime recycles an average of 30 tons of paper and cardboard each year - that's the carbon equivalent of taking 23 cars off the road. And we recycle more than two million pounds of steel annually keeping it out of landfills.
