Celebrating a Multicultural Community
Glendale is a beautiful city with 200,000 people of various cultures, ethnic backgrounds and socioeconomic status. The new playground at Carr Park builds social capital and is an essential gathering place for people from all walks of life.

Embracing the Natural Environment
NatureGrounds, an approach to blending manufactured play equipment with the natural environment, was part of the Healthy Play Initiative educational sessions hosted by PlayCore. By following research-based best practices Glendale provides a wealth of benefits at Carr Park through the natural elements.

Keeping Children Active
A UCLA study shows more than 35% of children in Glendale are overweight or obese. One of the most effective ways to help children achieve a healthy lifestyle is through active play. Glendale incorporated design principles found in PlayOn! to create a play space that encourages more physical activity and aligns with national standards for physical education.

National Demonstration Site
Carr Park was named a National Demonstration Site for NatureGrounds and for PlayOn! because it was designed using best practices for nature-based play and for youth physical activity. PlayCore designates this status to projects that meet specific requirements and includes them in ongoing research and data collection.
